KATIE HUGHES
a bit about
Katie Hughes is an anti-disciplinary designer who has a love for color. She currently splits her time between various art and design fields - when she's not developing new fonts, logos, and branding systems, she can be found at her easle oil painting or in a national park working on film photography.
While her interests in physics, philosophy, and neuroscience are less at the forefront of Shades and Hughes, they do shape the way Katie thinks about and crafts her practice as an artist and designer.
[...and she holds
a design MFA from CalArts &
a Philosophy BA/MA from Stanford*.]
*Katie was classically trained in calligraphy at Immaculate Heart in Los Angeles (former home of Corita Kent) and went on to develop analog skills in oil painting and film photography at Stanford. She furthered her digital design studies at CalArts, and apprenticed as a letterpress printer in San Francisco with James Tucker.
